Nearly 4 DecadesA Journey of Humanitarian Service

AYANGService Through Collective Action

For nearly four decades, Aini Taki Taloh of Arunachal Pradesh has made humanitarian service an important part of her life. Compassion, cooperation and responsibility towards society define her journey. Donating blood, encouraging others and bringing people together to support those in need are central to her work. Affectionately called ‘Ayi’, meaning Mother, she holds a place of warmth and respect among her volunteers and supporters. Her biography celebrates more than an individual achievement: it tells the story of a woman who puts compassion into practice and helps others discover their own capacity to serve.

01 / LIFE & SERVICE

Compassion in Service, Empathy in Leadership

For a family waiting for blood at a hospital, assistance carries the hope of a loved one’s recovery. Aini’s work belongs within this deeply human setting. Her involvement in voluntary blood donation reminds us that the needs of a stranger can also become a shared community responsibility. Service begins when concern becomes a willingness to help.

She is known as AYANG’s founder and chairperson, a voluntary donor and a motivator. Behind these roles is a simple commitment: to be useful to others wherever possible. Her example shows why consistency matters and why lasting service requires the willingness to bring people together around a common purpose.

02 / LIFE & SERVICE

Nearly Four Decades of Humanitarian Commitment

For nearly four decades, Aini has given humanitarian service a special place in her life. Responsibilities have grown and circumstances have changed, but her concern for people in need has remained. Connecting people, understanding their difficulties and stepping forward to help are foundations of her social involvement. Sustaining such a commitment requires patience, sensitivity and determination.

Within blood donation, she has contributed personally while encouraging others to participate. Her involvement in camps, support for volunteers and continued engagement with communities carry this journey forward. Service extends beyond a single event. Its lasting strength appears in people who feel inspired to respond when an unfamiliar family needs support.

A long journey of service is built from ordinary choices repeated with care: making time for others, staying involved and sharing responsibility. These habits give community initiatives continuity. They also remind younger volunteers that lasting contribution is possible through patient involvement, even when progress appears gradual and public recognition is limited.

03 / LIFE & SERVICE

Leading Through Her Own Example

Aini has supported blood donation through her own participation as well as her encouragement of others. In March 2026, she completed her 45th blood donation at the blood centre of Bakin Pertin General Hospital, Pasighat. This milestone reflects personal dedication and continuity of service. It illustrates how an individual decision can contribute to a wider culture of support.

Such commitment can encourage new donors to ask questions and consider participating. Every person’s eligibility remains individual, however. Donation should follow the blood centre’s screening and guidance, with the donor’s consent and health respected throughout. Caring for recipients and protecting donors belong together in responsible voluntary service.

AYANG: From Personal Commitment to Collective Support

Through AYANG, Aini’s work connects with volunteers and supporters. The organisation encourages voluntary donation, organises camps and mobilises help when blood is needed. Its activities give a personal commitment a collective form, allowing people with different abilities and experiences to contribute to a common humanitarian purpose.

Trust is essential to this work. Donors, hospitals, youth groups and other supporters can coordinate more effectively when they understand one another’s roles. Aini’s leadership highlights the value of those relationships. People joining hands for a worthwhile cause become a community resource whose importance reaches beyond any single programme.

Building the Future with Young Volunteers

The future of voluntary blood donation depends on new generations becoming involved. Aini’s engagement with student and youth organisations is important in this respect. In October 2024, a camp organised jointly by a KDO student organisation and AYANG in Pasighat collected 28 units of blood, giving practical expression to youth participation and collective responsibility.

These occasions offer more than an opportunity to donate. They introduce young people to cooperation, responsibility and the meaning of service. First-time participants deserve to have their questions heard respectfully. Clear information and a welcoming conversation can help an interested young person become a committed supporter over time.

A welcoming volunteer community gives newcomers room to learn. Some may be ready to donate, while others can help with coordination or communication. Respecting these different contributions encourages participation without pressure. It also helps young people understand that a humanitarian movement grows through cooperation, rather than through expectations placed on any single person.

An Inspiring Example of Women’s Leadership

Aini’s journey is also an example of women’s leadership. Her participation in a public movement shows how women can contribute as donors, build organisations and encourage others to serve. Her example can give new women volunteers confidence to participate. It invites communities to recognise the experience and dedication that women bring to collective action.

Leadership of this kind deserves appreciation for its practical value as well as its visibility. When women participate in decision-making and community organisation, their experience becomes part of the wider conversation. Aini’s story offers readers an opportunity to recognise that contribution and to support environments where women volunteers are heard, respected and encouraged.

07 / LIFE & SERVICE

From Arunachal to the National Blood Donation Movement

Aini also serves as a Vice President of the Federation of Blood Donor Organizations of India, or FBDOI. Appointed to this position in 2021, she gained a wider platform for her commitment and organisational contribution. Her connection with the national movement helps link local service in Arunachal Pradesh with cooperation and shared experience across regions.

Dialogue among blood donation workers from different states creates opportunities to learn from one another. Local circumstances vary, while the desire to support patients remains shared. A woman with grassroots experience brings a valuable perspective to these platforms, helping local initiatives become part of broader conversations about voluntary service.

08 / LIFE & SERVICE

Community Experience and Institutional Participation

Aini’s institutional involvement has included membership of the State Blood Transfusion Council’s governing body and the Institutional Ethics Committee of the North Eastern Institute of Folk Medicine. These responsibilities reflect the value of community experience and social concern. Understanding people’s everyday circumstances can help make health-related dialogue more responsive to their needs.

Community participation and institutional work offer different perspectives on the same purpose. Bringing them into conversation can help people understand both the practical responsibilities of health services and the concerns of families seeking support. Respectful dialogue creates space for questions, shared learning and a clearer understanding of how responsible assistance can be offered.

09 / LIFE & SERVICE

From Public Platforms to Community Awareness

Motivating people to donate involves more than making an appeal. It requires listening, understanding questions and helping people reach reliable information. Aini’s participation in public programmes and motivational dialogue supports this purpose. Straightforward language and an approachable manner can make an important message easier to understand and act upon.

Photographs from speaking engagements, community programmes and radio-related memories reflect different aspects of her public engagement. They show a journey shaped by communication and social connection. Awareness becomes meaningful when it helps people consider a responsible next step, whether as eligible donors, volunteers or supporters who share accurate information with others.

Recognition That Celebrates a Shared Effort

In July 2026, Aini received the ‘Rakt Seva Samman’ and ‘Iconic Blood Donor’ awards at an international blood donation programme in Bihar. She dedicated these honours to voluntary donors, supporters and AYANG’s members. That gesture reflects a leadership approach which acknowledges the people behind collective achievements and keeps the shared purpose at the centre.

Recognising a service worker can also encourage the many people whose contributions remain less visible. Volunteers arranging a camp, donors making time to attend and families offering support all help sustain the effort. Recognition has lasting value when it encourages further participation and carries the spirit of service to more people.

The Meaning of ‘Ayi’: Service Rooted in Belonging

The affectionate name ‘Ayi’ expresses the warmth people feel towards Aini. Such belonging grows through sensitive behaviour and trusted relationships. Her story illustrates a form of leadership in which the dignity of people matters alongside the purpose of an initiative. It reminds us that the way assistance is offered matters deeply to those receiving it.

Her contribution lies in blood donation, organisation-building and inspiring people to serve. Her example invites readers to explore opportunities nearby: becoming an eligible donor, volunteering or helping others find reliable information. Every responsible role can widen a community’s circle of support. Sincere assistance, offered within one’s abilities, can make a difficult time easier for a family.

When Compassion Becomes Support

Outside a hospital, a family looks towards the door whenever footsteps approach. Their loved one is receiving treatment, while their hope rests partly on help from someone they have never met. A voluntary donor steps forward. The introduction is brief, but the decision carries meaning. Aini Taki Taloh’s service brings this human possibility to mind. Her example lies both in giving blood herself and in encouraging others to discover their willingness to help. One person’s decision can bring many hands together. That is the message of this journey: when someone’s hope is fading, compassion can become responsible support. We may not know every family we help, yet we can choose to stand beside them with dignity, care and a shared commitment to humanity.

WITH RESPECT & GRATITUDE

A Tribute of Respect from RAKTDAAN

RAKTDAAN has also honoured Aini Taki Taloh’s dedication to voluntary blood donation and humanitarian service. Naresh Sharma, a Centurion Blood Donor and the founder of RAKTDAAN from Shimla district, Himachal Pradesh, expressed respect and gratitude for the AYANG founder’s contribution. This tribute celebrates a spirit of service that connects people and encourages sensitivity towards the suffering of others.

These cherished photographs capture the bond between people working towards a shared humanitarian purpose. Arunachal Pradesh’s beloved ‘Ayi’ and Naresh Sharma of Himachal Pradesh represent different regions, united through service. The memories express a simple belief: geographical distance need not separate those committed to helping others. Respectful relationships can strengthen cooperation and encourage people to learn from one another.

For RAKTDAAN, honouring such service is also an opportunity to introduce readers to the people behind voluntary blood donation. Photographs preserve the occasion, while the deeper purpose is to carry its inspiration forward. A tribute becomes meaningful when appreciation encourages further cooperation, thoughtful participation and continued respect for those serving their communities.
